King Edwards's School Witley

King Edward's School Witley has offered the IB diploma since 2004 and our terrific 100% pass rate and high average points score has meant that we already rank 8th in the UK, for IB schools.

We introduced the IB diploma because as a school we believe in providing a broad education for all our students and that goes far beyond the bounds of the classroom. We know that the skills developed during the course will equip our students for life and provide them with a significant advantage when applying for University places. "Thinking outside the box", carrying out independent research, and critically assessing evidence are all encouraged by the "Theory of Knowledge," which is part of the core of the diploma programme, which is delivered by specialist teachers. Regular presentations in groups or individually helps develop confidence, self esteem and ensures that our students are not phased by interviews.

With its strong links with the City of London and many of the Livery Companies, the school's foundation enables up to 40% of the students to receive bursaries, where there is a need to board. Although principally a British school, students from more than 35 countries attend and we have a strong team of EAL teachers in place for individual or group teaching. Our population reflects the world we live in and there is a diverse mix of cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds.

KES is a "digital campus" where classrooms and boarding houses are connected to the internet and a Microsoft Mentor School, where teaching and learning through laptops has been pioneered.

The school prides itself on its excellent pastoral care enhanced by the paired boarding houses that allow brothers and sisters to remain together. Care for the individual is paramount and everyone has a personal tutor who is there to assist their academic progress and to be a source of advice for a whole range of personal issues.

We offer a full and broad co-curricular programme for all pupils within the school, based upon the "Creativity, Activity and Service" concept of the IB programme. We are strong in sport, both traditional and more adventurous, including rock climbing, sailing and scuba diving. The performing and visual arts thrive at the school and each year we host the Vivartis Arts Festival that attracts visitors from all over the South East of England.

The 6th Form has a purpose designed centre which includes a Cyber cafe where they meet socially and enjoy snacks, hot drinks and during the examination season a baguette lunch. There is a busy social calendar that features "Dining in nights;" a programme of high profile speakers; weekend events such as an International Food evening, Valentines Ball and the biannual Summer Ball. Guildford, the nearby University City is just fifteen minutes away by train and this enables students to visit the cinema, theatres or just go shopping with friends. Each summer groups from the 6th Form raise funds and travel either to an orphanage in Malawi or a hill tribe village school in northern Thailand where they build new facilities, and teach English and Sport.

Entry for IB is based upon academic ability, interview and examination. We hope to meet you at King Edward's for an appointment with a member of the IB Team and a tour of the campus.
