Woodcote House School - Surrey
Woodcote House has been owned and run by the Paterson family since the 1930s although it has been a school since the 1816. There is something wonderfully old fashioned about the school; good manners are at the heart of everything that the school is about and yet, there is very relaxed atmosphere.
The school is tucked away in Windlesham and is set in 30 acres of land. It is in an excellent location for Home Counties/London families who would like their sons to board but to go home for weekends as it is just over two miles from Sunningdale station and the same distance to Junction 3 of the M3 motorway. About 75% of the pupils board and like many schools now, there is an increasing demand for flexi boarding.
Most of the boarders are in the older years- especially Yr 8, which they call the 6th Form. The school sends children on to a wide range of secondary schools, including some of the top schools and has started a specialist scholars’ class, with children going forward for King’s Scholarships, and Westminster and Winchester.
There is lots of space and plenty of emphasis on sport, and classes are never bigger than 14. Everyone will be in a team and given an opportunity to find the thing that they can shine at. Drama and the arts are a big part of school life.
Not much in the way of SEN provision, although some students can work on laptops. Mobile phones are banned – completely!! International students can speak to their families via skype or a school phone. There are very high levels of pastoral care and children as young as Yr. 3 often flexiboard.
Would Woodcote House School be a good fit for my son?
This is something of a ‘boy’s own’ school in the best sense. Boys are allowed to be boys and it is a very happy school. All-rounders thrive and all boys are encouraged and supported towards fulfilling their greatest personal potential.
How can I apply to Woodcote House School?
There is no formal assesment as such, and candidates and their families are welcomed for an open discussion on mutual fit. Please contact us for an initial discussion on suitability, and how best to proceed with an application.
