The school was founded and is still owned by Peter Gardiner, who is an Educational Psychologist.

Although considered to be a specialist Dyslexic school, the head; David King goes to great lengths to say is really for SPLD because so many kids with speech and language difficulties have concurrent SENs. This is very much the current thinking; schools are far better attuned these days to coping with Dyslexia; it is when it is rolled in with other issues that it becomes more complex; often now referred to as Speech and Language difficulties and/or working memory /processing difficulties

The head is a great believer in multi-sensory teaching especially through the use of ICT. They have around 190 Pcs in the school and everyone uses them in every classroom. The advantage over other specialist provision schools is that the children are able to get   He also focuses very much on getting the children to learn to be independent and ‘functioning’ adults rather than simply being able to read and write; hence the emphasis on the use of ICT.

The school has tripled in size since our previous visit. They also now have a sixth form and are able offer an almost bespoke curriculum for the students, including BTECs. The Art department is excellent. They also offer a ‘holding year’ post GCSE where students can take time to adapt to life beyond GCSEs and concentrate on vocational rather than academic studies.

Not only is there a staggering amount of sport but some of their athletes are remarkable winning National competitions. At the time of our visit their football team had just returned from beating Millfield!

The fees are remarkable value per money - £32,500 for international full boarding and £20,000 for a senior day pupil. They do charge extra for therapies.
