Oakham School
Oakham is one of the UK’s largest and most established IB schools, with 55–60 students each year, placing them in the top 5 independent IB providers nationally. They have delivered the IB Diploma for over 25 years, achieving consistently outstanding results and five consecutive years of positive value-added scores. In 2025, students achieved a 100% pass rate, an average of 34.1 points and one student scored a perfect 45 points, placing them in the top 1% worldwide.
They offer an impressively wide range of 26 subjects (19 at both Higher and Standard Level), generous contact time, and dedicated 1:1 support for the Extended Essay and CAS. The breadth of choice allows students to tailor their programme, for example, taking two Humanities subjects or three languages.
From September 2026, they will also offer the School Supported Self Taught (SSST) language option at Standard Level, enabling multilingual students to maintain and develop their mother tongue.
The 70-acre campus, an hour north of Cambridge, provides a safe, picturesque environment just five minutes from Oakham’s historic town centre. This means that students can benefit from the extensive sports facilities, university-level teaching spaces, and numerous areas for study and relaxation, whilst building their independence.
Students benefit from a balanced boarding and day community, a 50:50 ratio of girls and boys, represented by 35 nationalities. Mixed tutor groups, inclusive Houses, lively weekends, and 24/7 medical and pastoral support ensure every pupil feels known and supported.
Their award winning Careers team offers tailored guidance, with most students progressing to leading UK universities and over 10% securing places overseas. Recent destinations for their IB students include Cambridge, Durham, King’s College London, Manchester, and Bristol, as well as international offers from the University of Pennsylvania and ESCP Business School in Madrid.
Beyond the classroom, students enjoy an exceptional co-curricular programme: five major drama productions, 50 concerts annually, and thriving Art & Design studios offering everything from sculpture to textiles and jewellery.
Oakham also has a national reputation for sport, with 30 sports and over 125 weekly activities, including MUN, DofE, CCF, Voluntary Action, and sailing.
