Queenswood School - Hatfield
What is Queenswood School Like?
Queenswood is an excellent choice for families looking for a well-established, all-round girls' boarding school close to London. The school was founded in 1894 and occupies a large and comfortable campus with very good facilities and a rich histroy. The atmosphere is friendly and purposeful - this is a school where girls are kept busy and able to pursue whatever interests they may have. Although the school has many UK based day and boarder pupils, Queenswood welcomes students from all over the world and considers itself a truly global school.
Would Queenswood School be good for my child?
Although by no means an academic 'hothouse' Queenswood girls do very well and exam results are consistently good. Queenswood offers an impressive range of languages, including Japanese, French, Italian and Spanish all available up to A-Level. Students in younger years are in sets for Maths and English and from Year 10 also for Science. The school's personalised learning centre provides additional support for any girl needing help, whether this is for dyslexia or other SEN or for extra guidance with an Oxbridge application.
The school understands the needs of its students as they mature, and sixth formers enjoy their own study centre with its own social area and kitchens. Students at this stage of their schooling are responsible for managing their own timetables and able to focus on the subjects that they love.
Sport is outstanding, especially hockey and tennis, and Queenswood hosts the national schools' clay court championships. Gymnastics, fencing and dance are all available as options. Extensive music, drama and art facilities, as well as media and photography labs provide encouraging spaces of exploration. Girls are encouraged to really find their niche and to pursue a broad and varied education.
